“Japonism” is arrived in Europe with the universal exhibitions of Paris and London of the 1870s. This opening on the Far East and more particularly on Japan, with the art of prints, revealed to the artists Western an artistic movement – the Ukiyo-e (Japanese term meaning “image of the floating world”) – which then strongly influenced European painting.
From Monet to Bonnard, about 120 paintings and prints will be presented in the exhibition from March 30 to July 15, 2018.
